Ulteriore is pleased to announce that the winner of the Cassiopea open call is the artist, Danilo Sciorilli.

The residency is curated together with art historian Valentina Tebala and organised in collaboration with Catartica, an organisation active in the cultural and artistic promotion of the local area.

The open call was dedicated to the selection of an artist invited to develop a site-specific project in the village of Cataforio, engaging in dialogue with the landscape, the history of the place, and the local community.

During the residency week, Danilo Sciorilli will create an artwork conceived in relation to the territory that will then become part of the cultural heritage safeguarded by the Catartica Association.


THE VENUE

Situated on the lower slopes of the Aspromonte mountains, just a few kilometres from Reggio Calabria, Cataforio is a small village that bears deep traces of the history of the area.

The village centre lies near Motta Sant’Agata, an ancient fortified structure that for centuries shaped the defensive geography of the settlement. Today, it is undergoing a phase of transformation in which cultural practices, community-based initiatives and artistic research contribute to redefining the relationship between memory, landscape and community.

In this context, the residency is conceived as a temporary space for research, in which the artist is invited to engage with the place not as an object of representation, but as a field of relationships and possibilities.
