What does it mean today to inhabit a peripheral area?
In what ways can our perspective redefine the very concept of distance?
Growing up in Reggio Calabria means experiencing geography in a very tangible way: crossing the Strait, contending with long travel times, and navigating with a location long described as remote.
And yet distance is not merely a physical condition; it is also a cultural construct, something shaped by the ways in which we look at and narrate places.
There exists another form of proximity: that of knowledge.
Photographs, archives and visual narratives allow us to be elsewhere, activating imagination even before movement occurs.
The project opens up to narratives that interrogate other spaces – social, technological, emotional – reconfiguring the categories of centre and periphery, often defined through the rhetoric of a single dominant vision.

Every place exists within a network of relations: it is in the space between proximity and distance that a more conscious gaze can emerge.
Ulteriore was created to inhabit this tension, beginning from a specific territory and not considering it as either a limit or an advantage, but simple as a point of departure.
